There are a few types of machine learning methods that are generally used -- good ole Linear Regression, and various tree-based methods such as GBM (e.g. xgboost) are good examples.
You are mostly interested in analyzing time series data so those are generally the best for that. I don't know of anyone using fancy Deep Learning/Neural Network stuff because I mostly work with HFT and those methods are just too slow.

Anyway, you should prefer to stick to courses taught by Quants if you want to gain useful knowledge, e.g.

can we reduce the participants to 15 ($47*15) as the cohort starts in May.
Now total participants (incl. reserve list) are 12. Changing to 15, would probably encourage reserve list members to switch to main list and will get filled fast.
